Introduction
Schmidt Hammer Strength Assessment: PCTS uses Proceq Schmidt Hammers to measure the rebound value of a test impact on a structural member. PCTS can quickly and easily determine the compressive strength of hardened concrete and other construction materials.
Application
PCTS Technicians are available to:
- Determine early age strength
- Provide precast quality assurance
- Measure surface strength (accurate to ±20%—if you need 20MPa, test for 24MPa)
Testing with the Impact Echo
Testing with the Impact Echo involves using Olson Instruments NDE360. A CTS technician strikes the surface of a structural element with a tuned hammer (a steel ball of specific size) to produce a pressure wave (P-wave) pulse in the material of up to 90 kHz. This pulse propagates into the structure and is reflected by internal discontinuities or external surfaces.
Applications
- Measure Slab Thickness
- Locate position, extent, and depth of:
- Cracks
- Voids
- Delaminations
- Honeycombed Concrete
- Ungrouted Metal Tendon Ducts
- Assess strength via acoustic velocity
