Non-destructive testing (NDT)

Non-destructive testing (NDT) is a critical analysis technique employed across various industries to evaluate the properties of materials, components, or systems without causing any damage. This method allows us to assess integrity, composition, or condition without permanently altering the article being inspected.

The terms nondestructive examination (NDE)nondestructive inspection (NDI), and nondestructive evaluation (NDE) are commonly used to describe this technology. By avoiding permanent alterations, NDT provides significant cost and time savings in product evaluation, troubleshooting, and research. Some of the most frequently used NDT methods include:

  • Ultrasonic testing: Utilizes sound waves to assess material properties.
  • Magnetic-particle testing: Detects surface and near-surface defects using magnetic fields.
  • Liquid penetrant testing: Reveals surface cracks and flaws through capillary action.
  • Radiographic testing: Involves X-rays or gamma radiation for internal structure examination.
  • Remote visual inspection (RVI): Uses optical devices for direct or remote viewing.
  • Eddy-current testing: Detects surface cracks and conductivity variations.
  • Low coherence interferometry: Provides precise measurements of surface features.

"A quick and easy scan showed the problems in an easy-to-read report delivered in a timely manner. Will use again as Adam was very helpful with our project."
